Mira Costa School - Cambodia 4/3/14

After a long 19 hours of traveling, we finally made it to our destination: Cambodia. As soon as I took a step out of the plane, I was hit with a wave of extreme humidity and heat. From the airport, a small bus picked us up to drive us to the guest hotel that we were staying in. Through the windows of the bus, we could see a town tormented by the troubles of poverty. Every other building was old and worn down, and the streets were lined with graffiti. We then arrived at our hotel and slept, despite the time zone difference. The next day (today) we visited the Royal Palace. The Palace itself was a work of art.

The architecture of the buildings was astounding, with an ancient Asian art to them. Inside, we saw the throne of the king and queen, which they were only allowed to sit in once in their life. Knowing that these astounding royal buildings are only a bike-ride away from one of the most poverty-stricken areas on earth really puts things into perspective. Whether it be inside the most intricate buildings in Cambodia, or in the poverty stricken streets, the beauty of the country is still, very much present.
